Not every young player gets the chance to share the court with a four-time PBA champion—or even learn from a one-time Best Player of the Conference.

And for Gian Mamuyac, that chance has finally arrived by teaming up with Stanley Pringle for the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters.

“Super excited to learn from him, to play against him in practices, and to play alongside him during games,” Mamuyag revealed on Wednesday, August 20 at the NBA Store opening in Greenhills, San Juan.

Pringle signed a two-year deal with Rain or Shine last July, joining a loaded backcourt that includes Mamuyac, Andrei Caracut, Anton Asistio, and Felix Pangilinan-Lemetti.

In his final conference with Terrafirma, the 38-year-old posted averages of 13.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.1 steals during the 49th Season Philippine Cup, proving that he could still step up and lead the offense.

“Hindi pa namin siya kasama sa practice, pero his addition is sobrang laking bagay, especially for our young team,” Mamuyac said.

The 26-year-old, for his part, has emerged as a vital piece for Rain or Shine, which is determined to overcome the semifinal hurdle after four consecutive exits at that stage in the last four conferences.

Against the TNT Tropang Giga in their last Philippine Cup playoff showdown, Mamuyac averaged 10.9 points, including a 22-point outing in a 113-97 Game 6 win.

And with a player like Pringle to learn from, Mamu is eager to gain as much knowledge as possible, alongside the young Rain or Shine guards.

“Alam naman natin kung gaano kagaling si Kuya Stan, and lahat ng experiences niya at pinagdaanan niya. Kami mga bata na pwedeng matuto sa kaniya are super excited kasi we’ll get a chance to learn from one of the greats,” he continued.
