Superstar Luka Doncic will play for Slovenia in his third straight FIBA EuroBasket, hoping to end the country’s eight-year title drought in the tournament.
Luka Doncic headlined Slovenia’s 12-man roster for the upcoming FIBA EuroBasket 2025, carrying the hopes of a nation that has stumbled through its preparations for the continental stage.
The 2017 champions have finalized their lineup, with the Los Angeles Lakers superstar serving as the unquestioned centerpiece for a team who aims to atone their disappointing sixth place finish in the 2022 edition.
Aside from Doncic, Gregor Hrovat, Robert Jurkovic, Martin Krampelj, Edo Muric, Aleksej Nikolic, Alen Omic, Mark Paden, Klemen Prepelic, Rok Radovic, Leon Stergar, and Luka Šcuka composed the team.
Head coach Aleksander Sekulic confirmed the squad shortly after a 34-point loss to Serbia in Belgrade, a tough end to Slovenia’s tournament build-up.
Overall, the road to EuroBasket 2025 has been anything but smooth for the world no. 11 squad, which managed just one win in six friendlies. They beat Great Britain but dropped games to Germany, Lithuania, Latvia, and Serbia.
Against Latvia, Doncic hurt his leg after a teammate was pushed into him, immediately raising concerns about his availability for the team.
However, he avoided a serious injury and was back on the court, even dropping a double-double of 28 points and 10 assists in a 93-81 win over Great Britain.
Slovenia is placed in Group D with reigning Olympic silver medalist France, along with Israel, Belgium, Iceland, and Poland.
The Doncic-led squad will first face the Poles on Friday, August 29 (PH Time) in a rematch of the EuroBasket 2022 semifinal, when Poland dealt Slovenia one of the tournament’s biggest upsets.
