Down by as much as 21, the Green Archers forced an overtime against the UE Red Warriors and eventually won, 111-110, to snap out of a two-game slump in the UAAP Season 88 men’s basketball tournament on Wednesday, October 15 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Despite UE scoring the first six points of the extra session, Jacob Cortez and DLSU ended the game on a 13-6 run to help the Green Archers get back to .500 at 3-3.
Cortez powered DLSU with 26 points, including 20 in the second half, five assists, and four steals while team captain Mike Phillips churned out a double-double performance of 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Kean Baclaan added 17 markers but saw his night cut short after suffering an apparent knee injury midway through the final frame, forcing him to be stretchered off the court.
Meanwhile, Momowei’s 42-point outburst is the highest-scoring output by a Red Warriors since Alvin Pasaol’s 49-point explosion in Season 80.
Up next for the Green Archers is a highly anticipated Finals rematch against defending champions UP (4-2) on Sunday, October 19.
Meanwhile, the Red Warriors (0-6) will look to close out their first-round campaign on a high note as they face FEU (1-4) on the same day.
