There were so many to choose from.
This author felt that he should get this out of the bag before writing on: I am no volleyball pundit.
But as a sports fan that enjoys the drama and action that come with watching a volleyball game, I dug deep into my mental faculties and deeper on the internet to identify some of the most notable moments in the Premier Volleyball League in 2022.
If you thought I missed something, you are free to comment your favorite PVL moment on our Facebook page from which you found this article.
5-set thriller between Creamline and F2 Logistics
Fans could not tone down their excitement for the first-ever battle between two of the most successful volleyball clubs in the country.
The crowd was electric. The energy was high. The atmosphere was so intense. Both teams evidently were pushed to excel, and they gave the fans a wonderful game.
It was much awaited, and it did not disappoint. The match went the distance of 5 sets, and it was a comeback win by the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers no less.
Even if Creamline lost to F2 in that iconic match, they did have their moment this year against KingWhale. That made it to One Sports columnist Ceej Tantengco's list of sports milestones by Filipinas, so we're not counting that on this list. That's great because it means we have room for more here, so let's resume:
Mylene Paat crowned MVP
Even though Chery Tiggo failed to make the grand stage of the 2022 PVL Reinforced Conference owing to the tiebreak system in the semifinals, fans took comfort from the fact that at least Mylene Paat won the MVP award.
Some would argue the championship was better than the individual accolade. But you get my point. After all, Paat, who averaged 20 points in the elimination round, deserved the award.
EJ Laure turned pro
Her much-awaited UAAP comeback cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic, Laure decided to jump to the pros in January 2022 and join Chery Tiggo.
Laure helped the team wind up second in the Reinforced Conference. Unfortunately the team got the boot and failed to make the podium.
Ivy Lacsina made the jump
This was bad news for NU fans and definitely the opposite for the PVL.
The towering middle blocker opted not to join the Lady Bulldogs’ title-retention bid and instead signed with F2 Logistics ahead of the Reinforced Conference.
Lacsina got a big chunk of playing time in F2’s return after sitting out the Invitational Conference. Of course, fans absolutely loved that time when the Cargo Movers played against Deanna Wong and the Choco Mucho Flying Titans. Lacsina's squad lost, but fans who are in it for the 'kilig' moments still won.
Return of the imports
After the opening conference, PVL teams tapped imports for the first time since the pandemic disrupted life as we know it.
It was a delight to see the likes of three-time Olympian Prisilla Rivera, Lindsay Stalzer, Lindsey Vander Weide, and Tai Bierria hop on the court and display their volleyball prowess.
Some of their specific, delightful moments were: Rivera's record-setting night of 44 points back in a November win against Choco Mucho, and Vander Weide's Finals MVP performance when Petro Gazz clinched the title against Cignal.
Speaking of delight, remember this?
The return of the imports, as always, has also raised the level of competition in the league one way or another. It was something that will prove beneficial as the Filipino volleybelles gear up for future international tournaments.
