As speculation grows about what could be the final season of LeBron James’ storied legendary career, the King continues to defy both ‘Father Time’ and expectations.

Now at 41 years old, James is still putting up elite numbers while chasing new milestones with the LA Lakers.

.
But even greatness has its ebbs.

This season has also brought some notable lows that hint at the challenges of what might be LeBron’s farewell campaign, both for the Lakers and the league.

Here’s a look at the highs, lows, and standout stats from LeBron’s latest season.

The Good

  • 31 - That’s the number of points LeBron scored set against both the Atlanta Hawks and Memphis Grizzlies earlier this season to break the record for the highest-scoring game by a 41-year-old in league history.

The previous record? Another Lakers legend in Kareem Abdul-Jabbar who scored 25 points back in 1988.

Decades later, LeBron not only honors the Lakers’ legacy — he redefines what’s possible at his age.

  • 23 – The total number of seasons James has played in the league to break a tie with Hall of Famer Vince Carter (22).

Despite missing the Lakers’ first 14 games due to sciatica, James wasted no time making an impact once he returned.

On Nov. 19, he opened his record-breaking campaign with 11 points, 12 assists, and three rebounds in a 140–126 victory over the Utah Jazz.

  • 22 – That's the record-extending consecutive All-Star selection for James after his inclusion as a reserve in this year’s edition in LA.

Though his streak of consecutive All-Star starts came to an end this year, James will reunite with Olympic gold medal teammates Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant under the USA stripes in the revamped All-Star format.

If he takes the floor, it will be his 21st All-Star Game appearance — another record-extending reign — giving him the chance to add to his all-time leading 434 All-Star points.

  • 10  – James recorded this number of assists during the Lakers’ 120–114 comeback win over the Grizzlies earlier this month, a feat that moved him past Chris Paul and into second place on the all-time assists list combining both regular-season and playoff totals.

While John Stockton’s 17,645 assists will remain likely untouchable, this milestone underscores that the four-time champion is more than a scorer — he’s a floor general, orchestrating the Lakers’ offense with poise and vision even in his 23rd season.

The Bad

  • 1,297 — That’s the number of consecutive games LeBron scored in double digit before that historic, 18-year streak came to end during the Lakers’ 123-120 win over the Toronto Raptors back in December.

With a chance to extend it, James – who ended up with eight points — instead found a wide-open Rui Hachimura, who nailed the game-winning triple, sealing the victory for Los Angeles.

  • 21.9 — the number of points James is averaging this season which marks the lowest in his career since his rookie year back in the 2003-04 season.

While he is finding his form in the month of January after logging 23.5 points, the three-time Final MVP is also norming under 25 points per outing for the second year in a row.

  • 21 — James consecutive All-Star starts ended at this particular number this season as he was not named a starter for the midseason spectacle.

Despite this, he was selected as a reserve that marked his 22nd consecutive selection to extend his decade-long dominance.

  • 5 – that’s the number of months left before James will become a free agent which makes him the most notable name to watch in the offseason.

Back in July 2024, James signed a two-year, $104 million extension to stay with Lakers.

Despite trade talks swirling around the league this season, insider Dave McMenamin notes that James is expected to finish the season with the Lakers.

Still, questions linger beyond that: Will LeBron play a historic 24th season, explore a new team, or step away from the game entirely?
