Despite the usual production from Savi Davison, head coach Rald Ricafort believes PLDT’s unbeaten start in the 2026 PVL All-Filipino Conference reflects a more balanced approach.

The High Speed Hitters stayed perfect at 3-0 after pulling away from the Akari Chargers, 25-22, 25-27, 25-21, 25-15, on Thursday, February 19, at the FilOil Centre in San Juan.

Five PLDT players finished in double figures, led by Davison’s 18 points. Kianna Dy and Majoy Baron added 14 markers each, while Alleiah Malaluan and Mika Reyes also chipped in with 10 each.

"Siguro sumakto rin na nagiging healthy na rin kasi 'yung mga players," Ricafort said during the post-game press conference.

"'Di naman namin itatanggi na malaki talaga 'yung mga bola na nakukuha ni Sav from the past kasi nga sila Kianna, and 'yung diagonal ni Sav hindi pa ganoon 'yung nagiging contributions."

With Dy getting healthier and the middle blockers consistently involved, Ricafort noted that PLDT’s offense has opened up across all attacking lanes.

"Ngayon andiyan naman lagi 'yung mga middles, tapos nagiging healthy rin si Kianna kaya nagiging importante 'yung sa tatlong wing," he explained.

Contributions even from the bench

Beyond the starting group, PLDT's depth has also continued to pay dividends, with bench players stepping up when called upon.

Kiesha Bedonia and Sheila Kiseo delivered timely contributions, particularly during a pivotal third set against Akari.

"Malaking tulong talaga na na-build namin 'yung experience noong On Tour pa," he said. "Si Kiesha nandiyan naman talaga, saka si Shiela sa floor defense."

Ricafort emphasized that floor defense has become increasingly vital in the All-Filipino Conference, allowing role players to make a meaningful impact even without heavy scoring.

"Malaki talaga 'yung impact ng floor defense ngayon," he said. "Kaya kapag may nag-i-struggle, happy kami na 'yung galing sa bench naka-perform."
