Volleyball is headed to new frontiers.

The FIVB and Volleyball World announced two historic milestones during the 2025 Men’s World Championship in Manila: the USA and Canada will jointly host the Women’s World Championship in 2027, while Qatar has been awarded the Men’s edition in 2029.

North America’s first-ever World Championship

For the first time in history, a Volleyball World Championship will take place in North America.

The 2027 women’s edition will see matches staged across multiple host cities in the USA and Canada, culminating with the final rounds at Honda Center and OCVIBE in Anaheim, California.

The joint bid highlights the surging popularity of volleyball at the grassroots, collegiate, and professional levels across both countries and will serve as a prelude to the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028.

Qatar breaks new ground in 2029

Just two years later, the Men’s World Championship will venture into uncharted territory as Qatar stages the 2029 edition.

Matches will be held in Doha, a hub for world-class sporting events and one of the globe’s most connected destinations.

It will be the first time the Middle East hosts volleyball’s flagship event, with organizers promising a powerful legacy for the sport in the region.

Poland is the host for the 2027 edition.

FIVB’s global vision

FIVB President Fabio Azevedo emphasized the importance of expanding volleyball’s reach.

“We are proud to confirm not one, but three outstanding hosts – the USA, Canada, and Qatar – for future editions of the Volleyball World Championship. Taking the World Championships to new regions is an important step in growing our sport and sharing its values of collaboration, integration, peace, and solidarity more widely across the globe.”

He added that both the 2027 and 2029 tournaments are aligned with the FIVB Strategic Vision 2032, aiming to create not just world-class competitions but events that leave legacies, empower communities, and inspire mass participation.

Italy will be the defending champions for the women's edition, while Poland, Italy, Bulgaria, and Czechia are still battling it out in Manila for the Men's World Championship.
