Hyundai Capital Skywalkers head coach Fabio Storti is eager to see his young squad continue to gain experience as they brace for a challenging matchup against host team Alas Pilipinas in the ongoing Alas Pilipinas Invitationals.

Fresh off a competitive four-set loss to the Thailand national team, 22-25, 26-24, 19-25, 21-25, Storti said he’s satisfied with how his players responded, considering their limited preparation time.

“I’m pretty happy at how we approached the match,” Storti told reporters. “Of course, we didn’t keep the concentration all throughout, which is normal because we arrived only a few days ago.”

“Overall, I’m pretty happy. I hope that against the Philippine national team, we give a better performance.”

The Italian coach also shared that he had a lengthy conversation with Alas Pilipinas head coach Angiolino Frigoni prior to the tournament.

The two European tacticians discussed their shared appreciation for volleyball in the Philippines and the opportunities the Invitational presents ahead of the FIVB Men’s World Championship later this year.

“He told me about his experience here in the Philippines and he’s absolutely positive,” said Storti. “He’s welcoming the challenge this year ahead of the World Championship. I wish him and the whole Philippines team the best.”

Storti, who leads a relatively young Skywalkers roster, believes their stint in the Philippines is crucial in giving his players the exposure they lacked during the Korean V-League season.

“My team is made up of pretty young guys who didn’t have much experience during our season,” he said. “That’s why we came here—to get experience.”

Hyundai is set to face Alas Pilipinas next on the second day of the four-nation tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
