Meralco aims to get back on track when it battles an equally desperate NorthPort in the main game of the PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup doubleheader on Friday, May 9.

Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m. at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.

After losing three games in a row, the Bolts, now standing at 2-3, are eager to stop the bleeding and rediscover their early tournament form.

Their latest setback, a 116-128 loss to Rain or Shine last April 27, highlighted their defensive lapses and inability to close games despite getting big offensive numbers from their core.

Bong Quinto led the charge with 23 points, while CJ Cansino and Raymar Jose chipped in 21 apiece, but their efforts were not enough to overcome the Elasto Painters’ relentless attack.

Against a 1-3 Batang Pier side that is also reeling from three straight defeats, Meralco sees a golden opportunity to bounce back as it aims to protect its throne.

Expect the Bolts to turn to their veteran leadership and tighten the screws on defense.
