Alex Eala zoomed to no. 61 in the latest edition of the WTA rankings after she netted her maiden title in the Guadalajara 125 Open in Mexico last weekend.

Eala, 20, became the first Filipina to nab a title in the WTA Tour with the victory against Hungary’s Panna Udvardy, surpassing her runner-up finish in the Eastbourne Open earlier this year.

Though still five steps away from her career-best ranking of world no. 56, the Rafa Nadal Academy scholar took great strides with the win in Guadalajara. The jump also came at the heels of her first main draw win at the US Open.

Eala became the first Filipino to win a Grand Slam singles main draw match in the Open Era when she conquered Clara Tauson in New York last month.

But it's not yet over for Eala as she is expected to compete in Sao Paulo for the WTA’s return to the Brazilian City in two decades at the SP Open.

Eala will be seeded 3rd in the tournament which will be a WTA 250 tiff.

Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia will be the top seed with Argentina’s Solana Sierra coming in as the second seed.

Udvardy will also be competing as the no. 8 seed in the tournament.

Eala is expected to face a qualifier in the first round of the tournament later this week.
