Alex Eala rises to new career-high in latest WTA rankings

Alex Eala’s breakout season just keeps getting better.

The 20-year-old Filipina tennis star reached a new career-high of no. 53 in the latest WTA rankings released Monday, October 20. 

Eala moved up one spot to surpass her previous best of no. 54, continuing her rise and hunt for coveted Top-50 placing.

It’s a small but significant leap for the left-handed tennister, who continues to climb the rankings despite a modest stretch in recent weeks. 

She reached the quarterfinals of the Suzhou WTA 125 before bowing out early at the Wuhan Open qualifiers and the opening round at the  Kinoshita Group Japan Open.

Eala now turns her focus to the Guangzhou Open in China, her second-to-last tournament of the 2025 WTA Tour. 

The former U.S. Open juniors champion will compete in both the women’s singles and doubles events, teaming up with Ukraine’s Nadiia Kichenok for the latter.

The pair will open their campaign on Oct. 21 at 10 a.m. (PH time) against Great Britain’s Emily Appleton and China’s Qianhui Tang, with a quarterfinal berth on the line.
