The Olympic gold medalist is slowly getting there.
Hidilyn Diaz could retire right now and she will remain as one of the most important sporting figures in Philippine history.
Her gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics would have been a perfect ending to a storied career filled with tribulations and challenges. But the pride of Zamboanga City's immeasurable love for the country drives her to push for another Olympic glory. And it looks like Hidilyn is making good progress.
Her husband and coach Julius Naranjo shared on Instagram how the Olympic gold medalist checked another feat during their training.
"Hidilyn Diaz hits a lifetime [personal record] squat at 170 kg," Naranjo said.
"Always impressed with her ability to pull out amazing feats at her age. She’s slowly adapting to the program and we’re making progress."
The husband-wife, coach-athlete duo of Hidilyn and Julius was proven to be effective in the past, and it looks like their formula is still doing magic.
At 32 years old, Hidilyn remains relentless in achieving her goal. All while doing extra activities on the side like teaching weightlifting and earning a well-deserved college degree.
