Not the golden finish she hoped for, but Aira Villegas claimed her first SEA Games silver medal — an improvement from her bronze finish in 2019.
Almost, but not quite.
Aira Villegas settled for silver in the women’s 48kg boxing event of the 2025 SEA Games after a unanomous decision loss to Thailand’s Raksat Chuthamat on Friday, December 19, at the Chulalongkorn University Sports Center in Bangkok.
The bout went down to the wire, with both fighters locked in a tight contest until the final bell. In the end, all th judges from Mongolia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Hungary, and Jordan all scored the fight in favor of Chuthamat.
The silver added to Villegas’ SEA Games medal collection, following the bronze she won at the 2019 edition in the Philippines.
Villegas was one of several Filipino boxers in with three more in Eumir Marcial, Jay Brian Baricuatro, and Flint Jara all vying for a gold medal.
