CANDON CITY — Solid South will play without three players in the PBA All-Star Game on Sunday, March 8. Scottie Thompson, RR Pogoy, and Jericho Cruz begged off from the centerpiece of the festivities here.

League commissioner Willie Marcial confirmed this development on Thursday.

“Hindi pa sila cleared ng mga doctors nila kaya nakiusap muna sila na baka hindi muna makalaro at naiintindihan namin,” said Marcial.

Since they learned about the injuries only on the eve of the trip up north, Marcial said there are no replacements for the said players.

But even without them, Chot Reyes will still have at his disposal nine-time MVP June Mar Fajardo, RJ Abarrientos, Calvin Oftana, and Robert Bolick. Also donning the South colors are Rey Nambatac, Caelan Tiongson, JB Bahio, Santi Santillan, and Alec Stockton.

The Southern side will look to break a five-game slump against Solid North when the two teams square off in the culmination of the All-Star weekend.

Like most sportswriters, Jan Ballesteros once dreamed of becoming a professional hooper. But he learned the hard way that it’s not for everyone. He continues to be involved in the sport he loves, but this time as a member of the PBA Press Corps. Aside from primarily covering the PBA, he is also assigned to cover Gilas Pilipinas.
