Erika Santos was happy to see the Cignal HD Spikers bounce back from their first loss in the PVL on Tour with a four-set victory of the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles.

Now assured of an outright quarterfinals berth — the first among their group — Santos said they had to take the loss against the Chery Tiggo Crossovers on the chin and learn from it.

With less than 24 hours before they plunged right back into action, Santos said that the HD Spikers were able to recover well because they accepted what they needed to work on without any question or complacency.

“[Sabi lang namin] balik lang sa kung ano 'yung pinagtrabauhuhan. Hindi kami papayag [matalo ulit],” Santos said after the match.

“Good thing na na-acknowledge namin 'yung nangyari last night. Na-acknowledge 'yung mga pagkakamali, 'yung mga lapses, areas of corrections. Nalaman namin kung ano pa 'yung mga kulang and kailangan naming ma-learn. 'Di lang kami nag-stop. Nagtuloy-tuloy lang,” she added.

For Santos, it was a big step up as she established herself as one of the more reliable scorers of Cignal.

After the match, she said that it simply boiled down to wanting to do everything she can for her new team. Despite the wounding set back of their first loss in the tournament, Santos continued to push on.

“Simple lang, hindi naman ako nakukuntento kung ano 'yung kaya ko pang gawin. Gusto ko pang matuto, mag-aral, at malaman 'yung areas of corrections ko pa,” she said.

Now as they play the waiting game for how the rest of the pool phase pans out and the knockout play-ins are determined, the HD Spikers are simply going to revel in their success at the moment and, of course, keep an eye out for their next opponents.

“Good thing kasi 'yung mga paghihirap namin, nag-pay off,” said Santos of their quarterfinals berth. “Credit po sa mga teammates ko at mga coaches namin na nag-trabaho.”

Cignal now faces a lengthy layoff as they await the results of the next few games before their final quarterfinals foe is determined.

The quarterfinals kick off starting August 7 as the PVL returns to Pasig City at the PhilSports Arena.
