Erika Santos dominated for Cignal and the HD Spikers regain their bearings quickly en route to an outright quarterfinals spot in the PVL on Tour.
The Cignal HD Spikers rediscovered their winning ways and officially clinched an outright quarterfinals berth after drubbing the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles, 25-22, 25-17, 21-25, 25-16, in Pool B action of the PVL on Tour at the Passi City Arena on Sunday.
Erika Santos once again led the cavalry as she finished with a career-best 30 points built off of 29 attacks and one block, allowing Cignal to return to the win column less than 24 hours after absorbing their first loss to Chery Tiggo.
This time around though, Santos had enough support from her teammates and the HD Spikers are back on top of their pool standings with a 4-1 mark.
Among her supporters was the stiff net defense of Roselyn Doria-Aquino and the aggressive setting of Gel Cayuna.
A nip-and-tuck set 1 dictated the momentum for Cignal as the HD Spikers escaped ZUS Coffee despite Chinnie Arroyo tying the set late at 22-all after a crosscourt hit.
However, errors doomed the Thunderbelles and Cignal zoomed to a 3-0 closing run to take control of the match.
Riding the momentum, the HD Soikers seized the 2-0 lead with a commanding 25-17 conquest in set 2, with Doria-Aquino providing the set point with a block on former teammate Chai Troncoso.
While Cignal seemed to fall victim to complacency after dropping set 3, the HD Spikers were quick to get back on track to close things out in the fourth set.
Cignal uncorked a pivotal 10-3 run midway through the set that broke a 10-all deadlock, with Santos and rising star Ishie Lalongisip leading the way.
