Capital1 co-owner Milka Romero called the team’s No. 1 pick in the 2025 PVL Draft “the hope of a thousand dreams,” viewing it as a defining moment in building the franchise’s long-term identity.
The future just got a whole lot brighter for the Capital1 Solar Spikers.
After beating the odds and securing the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 PVL Draft, Capital1 co-owner Milka Romero called the moment a franchise-defining turning point for the young team.
“This first-round pick is the hope of a thousand dreams—the heart and soul Capital1 has been waiting for,” said Romero. “With this franchise player, we’re not just building a team… we’re building a future our fans can believe in.”
The Solar Spikers entered the draft lottery with a 30-percent chance of landing the top pick, trailing Nxled’s 40-percent odds.
But when their name was drawn, celebration erupted—not only among fans but also in the Romero household, where Milka, her sister Mandy, and their father Mikee Romero were watching live.
Leading the conversation around the No. 1 pick is none other than Bella Belen, the three-time UAAP MVP from National University. Belen is officially part of the draft pool but has yet to confirm whether she’ll pursue a professional career in the Philippines or explore international opportunities.

“I take it day by day. Of course, nasa shortlist siya. That’s what I can say,” Romero acknowledged. “But what the team needs is more important—and we’re focused on what aligns with our long-term plan with the management and coaches. We don’t want to just think of the moment.”

The Solar Spikers have been building steadily since their PVL debut.
After picking Leila Cruz at No. 2 in last year’s rookie draft, the team added Roma Mae Doromal (No. 14) and Jenya Torres (No. 20) to round out a promising core.
Despite finishing 11th in the All-Filipino Conference, Capital1 surged to 7th place in the Reinforced Conference, even making a playoff appearance thanks to rookie leadership and the standout performance of import Marina Tushova.
Cruz emerged as a breakout star this season, tallying 140 points and tying for 22nd in league scoring.
Now with the No. 1 pick in hand, Capital1 is poised to take another major leap. The upcoming PVL Draft Combine from May 30–31 and Rookie Draft Ceremony on June 8 will be critical in determining their next move.
“We’re building this team. Last draft helped a lot, and this one will build into what we already started,” said Romero. “Mandy and I are very excited that we can bring in more players, especially with what transpired tonight.”

Whether or not they ultimately select Belen, the Romeros know that this pick is about more than just talent—it’s about identity.
“We want to think of next year and many more seasons to come, and who will be there to build that foundation,” Romero said.
“We’re looking at our next moves not just for one player but for our whole franchise. How do we define ourselves in the professional league for many years to come? That’s the challenge—and the dream—we’re ready to face.”
