Crossing over into the next round with a win? No problem for Ara Galang and the Chery Tiggo Crossovers.
Another day, another winning roadtrip in Pasig for Chery Tiggo.
Ara Galang and the Crossovers overcame some bumpy roads en route to a 25-17, 22-25, 25-23 and 25-16 victory over the Galeries Tower Highrisers in the final game day of the PVL Reinforced opening round on Thursday, August 8.
After a five-set victory over the PLDT High Speed Hitters in their last outing, Galang spearheaded a hard-earned Chery Tiggo win with 16 points, built on 11 attacks and five blocks and denied the upset bid of the Highrisers in four sets.
Galeries Tower nearly squandered an early lead in the second set before weathering a late Chery Tiggo rally, who saved three set points prior to an uncharacteristic eight-second serving violation by Jasmine Nabor that led to the Highrisers tying the game at one-set apiece.
The Highrisers were again given the chance to close out another set but Chery Tiggo turned the jets on late with a clutch 6-0 run, erasing a 19-23 deficit in the third set behind import Khat Bell for a 2-1 lead.
In the fourth set, the Kung Fu Reyes-mentored team never looked back and wrapped up the game again on a 9-0 blitz capped off by a Grace Bombita attacking error.
With the High Speed Hitters and the Creamline Cool Smashers securing victories earlier, Chery Tiggo already secured the no.3 spot in Pool A heading to the match.
But that did not stop the Crossovers from looking ahead and instead took care of business in the taraflex before the crossover phase unfolds on Saturday, August 8.
Meanwhile, Galaries Tower are still searching for that elusive first win after suffering their fifth-straight defeat.
The young squad will jumpstart their Pool D campaign against the no.1 team in Pool B and the only remaining unbeaten team in the Akari Chargers.
