Mika Reyes has always brought quiet intensity to the volleyball court—but away from the spotlight, the PLDT High Speed Hitters captain unwinds in a different kind of battle: the magical, high-stakes world of anime.
You’ve seen her dominate the middle since her La Salle days. You’ve watched her evolve into a veteran leader for the PLDT High Speed Hitters. You think you know Mika Reyes?
Well, here’s something you probably didn’t expect about our dear Yeye: she’s deep into anime—and she’s not shy about it.
“Ang angas din pala ng Black Clover. 3rd szn na me hehe,” she posted on her Instagram story, proudly marking her progress through the fantasy series. That’s right—off the court, Mika’s busy leveling up in a world where grimoires, magic, and epic battles reign supreme.

Black Clover follows Asta and Yuno, two orphans with the same goal: to become the Wizard King in a kingdom where magic is power. The manga wrapped up its Weekly Shonen Jump run in 2023 and moved to Jump Giga later that year, with 36 volumes released by early 2024. Plenty of content for Mika to power through.
But this obsession didn’t start with Black Clover. It started way back—when post-class routines meant snacks and a TV remote.
“No’ng bata pa ako, wala pang mga streaming apps, wala pang ibang movies, puro series lang,” she told One Sports during Media Day.
“So after class ko, no’ng grade school ako, year 2000-something, umuuwi ako sa house, bibili ako ng meryenda, bubuksan ko ‘yong TV, manonood lang ako ng anime.”
Her go-to titles? Not what you might expect.
“Dalawang magkasunod na anime ‘yon—Detective Conan or Hunter x Hunter.”
While Naruto ruled most kids’ screens back then, Mika was tuned in elsewhere.
“Sa kabilang channel ako, hindi ko napanood ‘yong Naruto. Pero kakatapos ko lang ng Naruto last year,” she said, laughing.
Fast forward to today: Reyes just wrapped up Bungo Stray Dogs and Solo Leveling.
As much as she enjoys anime, Reyes keeps things practical.
“Wala, wala. Gastos, eh. Nood na lang,” she laughed when asked if she collects any merchandise.

From blocking hitters to binge-watching heroes, Mika Reyes shows there’s more to her than meets the eye. She may bring composure on the court—but when the jersey’s off, it’s all about chaotic magic, plot twists, and a whole lot of angas.
