The Akari Chargers name Tina Salak as their new PVL head coach following the departure of Japanese mentor Taka Minowa.
The Akari Chargers have appointed Tina Salak as their new head coach, marking a significant shift in leadership as the franchise eyes continued growth in the Premier Volleyball League.
Salak, who returned to coach the FEU Lady Tamaraws in UAAP Season 87, will replace Taka Minowa as Akari head coach. Minowa stepped down after overseeing a historic run for the Chargers, where the team scored two podiums.
Under Minowa, Akari reached the Finals of the 2024 Reinforced Conference and secured bronze in the 2025 All-Filipino Conference — a sharp turnaround for a team that had never placed higher than seventh in its first five PVL appearances.
Minowa bid farewell to the team in an emotional Instagram post.
“Even the most successful team in the PVL started with back-to-back podium finishes before finally becoming champions. The foundation has been laid. The belief is real. And the future is bright. Go for Gold,” he wrote.
