It’s easy to believe that some dreams have an expiration date — especially when it comes to sports. But 68-year-old runners Diyo Soli and Greg Sulut Torres are living proof that passion and perseverance can defy age.
Are you afraid it’s too late to start running? That you’ve missed your chance or that your body won’t keep up?
At 68 years old, runners Diyo Soli and Greg Sulut Torres are living proof those fears don’t have to stop you.
“I started running a long time ago but I stopped maybe two years ago. So I resumed running last year. I used to run 21km but when I resumed, hanggang 10km na lang,” Diyo shared during the Sante Barley Trilogy Run Asia Leg 2 in Pasay.

Coming back after a break, he stressed the importance of taking it slow:
“Running is the best sport to be engaged with pero ang hirap kasi hindi pwedeng biglaan. I started 3km muna, 5km, and then umakyat nang umakyat. Kailangan ng practice kasi para for endurance.”
Greg’s journey began even later.
“I started when I was 50 years old. I am now 68 years old. Sali-sali lang,” he said.
For Greg, running is more than just exercise — it’s a way to bond with his family.
“Nag-21km din mga dalawa kong anak na babae. Magandang bonding,” he added.
Their stories prove that age, time off, or doubts don’t have to hold you back. Whether you’re just starting or making a comeback, running welcomes you with open arms. The only limit is the one you set for yourself.
