Capital1 Solar Spikers have tapped Olympic gold medalist Jorge Souza De Brito as their new head coach—just days before the 2025 PVL Rookie Draft where they hold the first overall pick.
Jorge Souza De Brito has been appointed as the new head coach of the Capital1 Solar Spikers.
The announcement was made on their official Facebook page on Monday, June 2, just days before the team selects first overall in the 2025 PVL Rookie Draft. This marks a significant move as the franchise continues to build its identity in the Premier Volleyball League.
De Brito, who also serves as head coach of the Philippine women’s national team, Alas Pilipinas, replaces the previous coaching staff while veteran tactician Roger Gorayeb remains as team consultant.
A 1992 Olympic gold medalist for Brazil, De Brito brings championship pedigree and deep international experience to the Solar Spikers. He is widely credited for Alas Pilipinas’ bronze-medal breakthrough in the 2024 AVC Challenge Cup—an achievement that reinvigorated Philippine women’s volleyball on the continental stage.
Despite his new club duties, De Brito will continue leading Alas Pilipinas, whose roster will remain intact for upcoming international competitions. The national team is set to compete in the AVC Women’s Volleyball Nations Cup starting June 7 in Hanoi, Vietnam, and at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games this December in Thailand.
De Brito previously served as head coach of the Akari Chargers, officially stepping down in December 2023 after leading the squad through four conferences. Akari management lauded De Brito for his service, expressing “sincere appreciation” for his role in developing the team’s young core.
Now, he takes over another youthful roster—this time backed by a top draft pick and a fresh system on the horizon.
