Wise words and an honest admission from Kat.
The Choco Mucho Flying Titans crashed out of the PVL Invitational Conference on Tuesday, losing to the Cignal HD Spikers in straight sets, 25-15, 25-21, 25-21, to finish pool action at 3-2.
The anti-climactic end to an otherwise promising start to the conference naturally elicited mixed reactions from fans, with some Choco Mucho diehards professing their undying support to the team and others firing on all cylinders with the criticisms.
And, in all likelihood, the bashing partly prompted Flying Titan Kat Tolentino to share a piece of her mind on Facebook, where she somewhat defended her team and promised to keep at it until Choco Mucho ultimately achieves its ultimate goal.
“There are a lot of things people don’t see behind the scenes with this Choco Mucho team. I’m sure every team works hard, sacrifices, and puts in the effort,” Tolentino began. “But what I admire is the patience and pride we’ve had despite all the noise. All the hardships and losses. All the failed expectations and criticisms. All pain and injuries.”
It doesn’t mean, however, that Tolentino and the rest of the Flying Titans are A-OK.
“Because as athletes that’s our job. To put on a brave face even though there are times we don’t feel so brave. We don’t feel so strong. We don’t feel so confident,” Tolentino admitted. “We continue to carry Titan pride because it’s not always about the result but the impact you can make in people’s lives. Every conference we have the same goal and just because we didn’t reach it doesn’t mean we failed.”
Tolentino then turned insightful, reframing Choco Mucho’s struggles in the grand scheme of things.
“I’ve experienced several different versions of Choco Mucho and every version has shaped the team for what it is today. We’ve had our mistakes and lapses but success isn’t linear,” Tolentino pointed out. “One thing that my three ACL injuries taught me was that even when you think you aren’t getting anywhere you are just being redirected. So, if this is just another turn for our team, then I’ll gladly keep rerouting until we get to our destination.”
