Rain or Shine begins its campaign in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup on Saturday, March 14, as it takes on guest team Macau Black Knights at the Ynares Center in Montalban.

The Elasto Painters are eager to open the conference on a strong note after a disappointing finish in the previous tournament.

Rain or Shine bowed out in the quarterfinals of the Philippine Cup following a loss to the Meralco Bolts, leaving the team determined to bounce back in the mid-season, import-laden conference.

Leading the Elasto Painters’ redemption bid is new reinforcement Jaylen Johnson, a 6-foot-9 forward who previously played for the Louisville in the U.S.

Johnson is expected to provide the inside presence and versatility Rain or Shine lacked late in the Philippine Cup, giving the team a new focal point on both ends of the floor.

Rain or Shine, however, faces a Macau squad eager to rebound from a tough first outing in the league.

The Black Knights absorbed a 102-94 loss to the Converge FiberXers in their PBA debut last Wednesday, a game where they controlled much of the action before the FiberXers stormed back late.

Macau looked poised to pull off a successful debut before Mikey Williams and Alec Stockton took over down the stretch to flip the script.

The late surge ultimately spoiled what had been a promising showing for the Black Knights, who now aim to translate that early-game dominance into a full 48-minute performance against Rain or Shine.

Earlier in the evening, the FiberXers look to keep their momentum going when they face the Terrafirma Dyip in the 5:15 p.m. curtain-raiser.

Converge hopes to build on its encouraging opening win over Macau and secure back-to-back victories to start the tournament.

Williams, who only saw action in the fourth quarter of their previous game while awaiting clearance from FIBA, is expected to log heavier minutes this time around.

His expanded role could give the FiberXers a major boost as they take on a confident Terrafirma side coming off a spirited victory against the Titan Ultra Giant Risers.
