Likes most rookies, nerves got to Geo Chiu in his PBA debut Wednesday night, March 11.

Chiu admitted feeling the need to be a bit extra in Terrafirma’s 112-82 win over Titan in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup.

“Masyado po nanggigil. Masyado po na-excite,” Chiu told reporters after the match at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila.

“Pero nung huli po nakuha ko na yung rhythm. Siguro dapat next time pag nag start pa lang dapat kalmado lang po.”

Still, the top overall pick in previous PBA draft submitted decent figures, finishing with six points and 14 rebounds.

The 6-foot-10 slotman, however, was far from satisfied, of course.

“Syempre di po tayo satisfied. Pero masaya po ako kasi panalo po kami yun naman po yung goal,” he said.

Asked what he stil needs to work on going forward, the former Ateneo standout it was to learn to calm himself down from the get-go in order find his rhythm.

“Siguro being patient lang kasi kanina napapansin ko na masyadong nagmamadali, wala sa hulog, wala sa rhythm,” he said.

“Pero sa tuneup games po namin kalmado po ako so siguro po dahil first game game medyo may kaba pero yun, OK naman po. Looking forward po sa next games.”

Like most sportswriters, Jan Ballesteros once dreamed of becoming a professional hooper. But he learned the hard way that it’s not for everyone.

He continues to be involved in the sport he loves, but this time as a member of the PBA Press Corps. Aside from primarily covering the PBA, he is also assigned to cover Gilas Pilipinas.
