Schonny Winston is turning over a new leaf with the NLEX Road Warriors in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup.
Schonny Winston held no grudge whatsoever after being shipped from the Converge FiberXers to the NLEX Road Warriors a little over two weeks before the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup commenced.
Part of the three-team, five-player trade, Winston said he was naturally shocked to be learn the news after helping build the team that drafted him ninth overall in 2023.
The former La Salle standout understood it was all business.
“I was shocked… they just told me in the morning. I was like, ‘Oh, OK.’ But it’s professional business so it’s part of the game,” he said.
Asked if he felt a pang of regret knowing they were doing something special at Converge with guys like Juan Gomez de Liaño, Alec Stockton, Justin Arana, and Justine Baltazar, Winston said he didn’t have anything but appreciation.
“You gotta turn the page and continue to move forward. But I definitely appreciate it (relationship with Converge). It’s not forgotten but will continue to move forward,” he said.
Though he’s only been with the team since then, Winston made his presence felt already especially on the defensive end in the Road Warriors’ 84-81 win over Blackwater Friday, March 13.
He wound up with four steals he spiked with 10 points, five rebounds, and three assists.
“Just happy we got the win. I’ve only been here two, three weeks, so I’m getting that flowm getting that rhythm with the team,” he said.

Like most sportswriters, Jan Ballesteros once dreamed of becoming a professional hooper. But he learned the hard way that it’s not for everyone.
He continues to be involved in the sport he loves, but this time as a member of the PBA Press Corps. Aside from primarily covering the PBA, he is also assigned to cover Gilas Pilipinas.
