Rhenz Abando’s Anyang Red Boosters and Kevin Quiambao’s Goyang Sono Skygunners dominated their respective matchups against fellow Filipino imports in the latest KBL action.
Filipino imports Rhenz Abando and Kevin Quiambao stood out in Friday’s KBL action, leading their respective teams to victories over fellow countrymen.
Abando scored 14 points as the Anyang Red Boosters dominated former league MVP Ethan Alvano and the Wonju DB Promy, 84–63, to claim a share of the top spot with defending champions Changwon LG Sakers.
Johnny O’Bryant III poured a team-high 30 points, anchoring his team to back-to-back victories while improving to 10-4.
Anyang raced to a 45–34 halftime lead and never looked back, joining Changwon as the only teams to reach double-digit wins this season.
Alvano contributed 12 points, six rebounds, and five assists, but the Promy dropped their second straight game, sliding to 8-6 and tied with Suwon KT SonicBoom for third place.
Up next, Anyang faces Carl Tamayo and the LG Sakers, while Wonju squares off against Arvin Tolentino and the Seoul SK Knights (7-7).
Meanwhile, Quiambao powered Goyang Sono to a much-needed 93–82 bounce-back victory over SJ Belangel and the Daegu KOGAS Pegasus.
KQ finished with a 23 points and five rebounds, joining two other teammates in reaching the 20-point mark in a balanced Skygunners attack.
The win improved Goyang to 5-9, keeping them in ninth place.
Belangel, meanwhile, recorded 16 points and seven assists, but it wasn’t enough as Daegu slid to 3-11, remaining at the bottom of the standings.
Goyang will next face the Seoul Samsung Thunders (6-9), while Daegu takes on the Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus (6-8).
