Just hours before kicking off their ASEAN MSIG Serenity Cup 2025 campaign, the Philippine Women’s National Football Team received a timely boost.

The Filipinas climbed two spots at no. 39 in the latest FIFA women’s world rankings released on Thursday, August 7.

It marked the first time that the Philippines cracked the world’s top 40 since 2023 — the same year the country made a landmark debut in the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Perhaps a major factor in the Filipinas’ rise was their unbeaten run in the group stage of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers.

The Filipinas swept Group G with victories over Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia and Cambodia, securing their spot in the tournament proper slated for March 1–21 in Australia. It will serve as the Asian qualification pathway towards the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

Reigning world champions Spain claimed the top spot, dethroning four-time winners United States. 2023 runners-up Swede surged three places to occupy the no. 3 spot while England and Germany completed the top five.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Men’s National Football Team made a modest climb of their own, rising one spot at no. 145 in the men’s rankings.

They recently welcomed new head coach Carles Cuadrat, who arrived last month as the latest figure tasked with steadying the rebuilding program.
