Love moves in mysterious ways, and the story of PVL star Kianna Dy and Gilas Pilipinas ace Dwight Ramos is something straight out of a movie.
Fresh off celebrating her 30th birthday and riding the momentum of the PLDT High Speed Hitters making the quarterfinals of PVL on Tour, Kianna Dy took a moment to share the story of how she met Gilas Pilipinas star and B.LEAGUE standout Dwight Ramos.
From a chance encounter to supporting each other through packed schedules, the power sports couple has found a rhythm—even in the chaos of their athletic lives.
One night and a mutual friend were all it took.
“I saw him in a club. I saw him at a party, and then he was with Thirdy [Ravena], and I asked Thirdy who he was, then Thirdy introduced me to him. He sent me a DM and then we started talking,” Kianna recalled.
It seems like we all need a friend like Thirdy.
According to Kianna though, #KKDWight didn’t materialize out of thin air.
“Siyempre, hard to get tayo.”
Both athletes lead demanding careers—Kianna in the PVL and Dwight in the Japan B.LEAGUE and the national team—making quality time rare.
But for Kianna, supporting Dwight never feels like a chore.
“I never get tired of watching his games. If ever I do have time to support him and watch him, I will make the time,” she said.
That commitment was on display during Gilas Pilipinas’ send-off match against the Macau Black Bears last July 28.
Kianna had just landed in Manila from Cebu for PVL on. Tour, but wasted no time heading straight to the Big Dome to see Dwight and Gilas.
“I went straight [to Araneta] kasi minsan lang naman kami magkita. Then, minsan lang ako makanood so I always make time to watch him.”
Dwight helped spark a 21-point comeback win for Gilas, a positive tone as the national team gets ready for the FIBA Asia Cup 2025.
But even in victory, Kianna admits the ups and downs of Dwight’s games affect her too.
“Of course, when they lose, of course sad si Dwight and as an athlete, I understand how that it feels for him.”
And so, she does what she can to lift his spirits.
“But you can’t always dwell on a loss, you just have to keep moving forward. I just try to motivate him whenever I get the chance I get.”
Like any fan in the stands, nerves kick in during tight games—something she finds more intense than playing herself.
“Pag ganiyan kadikit, medyo [nervous] kasi it’s different when you’re playing and when you’re watching.”
Kianna has even picked up a few things about basketball—sort of.
“He tries to teach me, but I’m just like, my attention span is short but he tries. I mean, I get like the basics, but the deeper ones, I forget.”
Still, as a partner, she knows the effort Dwight puts in behind the scenes.
“Hi, Dwight. I know you’ve been working hard for your upcoming games and I know you’re gonna do good. So good luck in Saudi Arabia,” Kianna said in a short message of support.
