The Cignal HD Spikers showed no signs of rust after eliminating the Akari Chargers in the PVL on Tour quarterfinals, 25–20, 25–11, 28–26, at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City, Thursday, August 7.

Coming off a 17-day break, the HD Spikers pounced on the Chargers, who are fresh off their straight-sets win over the Petro Gazz Angels in the knockout round.

Dominant all game, Cignal’s biggest challenge came in the third set, where Akari held on to the lead until the 18-15 mark. Erika Santos would go on to lead the HD Spikers’ charge to tie the game at 20-all.

The two teams would continue to exchange attacks, leading to an extended set.

Still tied at 26-all, a cross-court kill by Tin Tiamzon put Cignal at match point once more before Santos delivered the game-winning attack to seal the victory.

Santos starred anew for the HD Spikers with 24 points on 43% attack efficiency.

Cignal will now await the winner of the quarterfinal match between the Nxled Chameleons and Chery Tiggo Crossovers.
