Carlos Yulo failed to complete a four-peat in vault at the 2025 Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships in South Korea, settling for third place.
Carlos Yulo added another bronze as his third medal at the 2025 Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships in South Korea, finishing on the podium of the men’s vault final on Sunday.
Yulo, the Olympic champion in the apparatus, settled for third place after performing two 5.2 difficulty vaults whereas those above him executed one 5.6 difficulty and one 5.2.
This resulted in Yulo lagging behind despite a better execution in his first vault, scoring 9.333.
However, he went amiss in his second vault, getting only an 8.933 execution score for an average mark of 14.333.
Yulo, who also won bronze in the men’s all-around and a gold in floor exercise earlier this week, failed to secure his fourth straight vault gold medal in the Asian Championships.

Besting the competition this time was Iran’s Olfati Mahdi with an average of 14.500. He scored 14.666 on his more difficult attempt, while scoring 14.333 in his second vault to seal his place for the gold. This comes after he finished just seventh out of the eight finalists during the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Coming in second is China’s Huang Mingqi with an average of 14.400 for his two vault attempts.
The Philippines’ other bet John Ivan Cruz finished sixth with a score of 14.150.
Earlier, Yulo’s younger brother Eldrew nabbed the silver medal in the juniors vault final with a score of 13.850. Eldrew got high execution scores for both his attempts which were 4.8 and 4.4 in difficulty, scoring 9.100 and 9.400 in execution, respectively.
The elder Yulo has two more finals — the parallel bars and the horizontal bars — later today to complete his campaign in Korea.
