The recruitment coup of Cignal continues.

Just days after announcing the acquisition of National University star setter Owa Retamar, the decorated club team welcomed another promising player in JM Ronquillo on Sunday.

Ronquillo, who embarks on a new chapter in his promising career following a five-year stint with La Salle, is glad to be a part of the winningest squad in the local men’s volleyball scene.

“Sobrang happy kasi Cignal isa sa pinakamatagal na club team dito sa Pilipinas, at isa ako sa nabigyan ng opportunity para makapaglaro rito,” he said.

Ronquillo is expected to bolster the opposite hitter rotation of the HD Spikers, which already feature veterans Madz Gampong and Alfred Valbuena.

The addition of Ronquillo underscores Cignal's commitment to strengthening its squad with young talent, while maintaining the core that recently ruled the 2024 Spikers’ Turf Open Conference.

As an incoming rookie, Ronquillo is well aware of the challenges that lie ahead, but he is eager to embrace them.

“Para sa akin siguro adjustment period muna kasi first year ko sa different level ng volleyball. More on adjusting lang talaga, and getting to know ‘yung management, sila coach, and ‘yung mga ka-teammates ko,” he shared.

Ronquillo also expressed his excitement about teaming up with and learning from Bryan Bagunas and the other Cignal mainstays.

“Excited na ako makasama sila sa loob ng court lalo na si kuya Bryan na madaming experience sa paglalaro, hindi lang dito sa Pilipinas pero kahit sa ibang bansa. Gusto kong matuto sa kanila, kung ano man ‘yung maipapayo nila sa amin para sa mas younger generations,” he said.
