The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) has named Juno Sauler as new Gilas Pilipinas Youth head coach Saturday, January 10.

Sauler replaced LA Tenorio, who will stay on as adviser.

“The SBP welcomes coach Juno into the Gilas Pilipinas Youth Men’s team and thank coach LA Tenorio for his stint as head coach,” said SBP president Ricky Vargas.

The concurrent Magnolia assistant coach in the PBA and UST deputy brings in a wealth of experience which included a UAAP championship with La Salle in 2013.

As an assistant coach, he won four with Ginebra and one with the Hotshots during their 2018 Governors’ Cup conquest.

But while he has been exposed to collegiate and professional ball for decades now, Sauler has been involved in grassroots programs all over the country.

Those qualities convinced Vargas that Sauler could be tailor-fit for the program.

“Coach Juno brings a wealth of experience and deep connections nationwide that will help him put together the best team possible,” added Vargas.

Sauler will be first tested when Gilas locks horns in the 2026 SEABA U-18 championship where the top two finishers will qualify for the FIBA U18 Asia Cup.

Like most sportswriters, Jan Ballesteros once dreamed of becoming a professional hooper. But he learned the hard way that it’s not for everyone.

He continues to be involved in the sport he loves, but this time as a member of the PBA Press Corps. Aside from primarily covering the PBA, he is also assigned to cover Gilas Pilipinas.
