Marcus Douthit has done a lot for Gilas Pilipinas as a naturalized player and Filipino.
Among them was leading the team to the FIBA Asia Championship silver medal in 2013, which also meant a historic return trip to the World Cup in Spain.
But there’s one thing Kuya Marcus wished he could have experienced during his illustrious career with the national team.
It was to play for the legendary, nay, Philippine basketball GOAT coach, Tim Cone.
The 6-foot-11 bared this in response to an Instagram post about Cone posted by Barangay Ginebra San Miguel forward Jared Dillinger.
“(One) coach I wish I had the chance to play for,” Douthit wrote.

In the last five years, Cone called the shots for Gilas only twice, by which time Douthit was already “retired” from the national team.
In 2019, the American mentor led the national team to the Southeast Asian Games gold medal in Manila before helping the hastily-assembled Gilas conquer the Asian Games.
At one point, the beloved Douthit did play in the PBA, where Cone won multiple championships for three different teams. But the naturalized slotman suited up for Blackwater in the 2015 Commissioner’s Cup.
Perhaps Cone can give the 43-year-old a coaching job at Ginebra or Gilas?
