Alas Pilipinas kept their playoff hopes alive in the Beach Pro Tour Futures Korea, with Villapando-Rodriguez staying unbeaten while Rondina–Pons and Eslapor–Orillaneda split their Day 2 matches.
Alas Pilipinas’ beach volleyball campaign in the Beach Pro Tour Futures in Busan, South Korea, remains strong after a mixed set of results on Day 2 on Friday, August 15.
Sunny Villapando and Dij Rodriguez stayed perfect in Pool D, outlasting Germany’s Karoline Frohlich and Sandra Otte in a tough three-setter and later sweeping Vanuatu’s Majabelle Lawac and Sherysyn Toko.
Their 2-0 record puts them atop Pool D, nearing a quarterfinals berth.
Sisi Rondina and Bernadeth Pons, meanwhile, battled through an intense three-set win over Japan’s Riko Tsujimura and Takemi Nishibori, 22-24, 33-31, 17-15.
The SiPons duo, however, could not continue their perfect run after narrowly falling in straight sets against Ren Matsumoto and Non Matsumoto.
The pair sits at 1-1 in Pool A.
Making a strong return to the tour, Gen Eslapor and Kly Orillaneda swept South Korea’s Kim Seyeon and Seohyun, 21-8, 21-17, before bowing to the Czech Republic’s Anna Pospisilova and Michaela Brinkova in straight sets, 9-21, 10-21.
The Philippine pairs continue their push for playoff spots as pool play wraps up on Saturday.
