The OG naturalized Filipino hopes to help out Gilas Pilipinas once more.
Gilas Pilipinas has been having its struggles as of late, but maybe that could change with some additions to the team or coaching staff.
While it’s been nearly a decade since Marcus Douthit last suited up for Gilas, the naturalized big man is still yearning to help out the national team in whatever capacity, including in a coaching role.
On Twitter, Douthit took the time to tweet about Gilas’ tough loss versus Cambodia, expressing the lengths that the Southeast Asian Games host took in order to beat the country.
You know what Gilas!! We been at the top of the mountain for a reason!! LOOK WHAT THEY HAD TO DO TO COMPETE!! 4 imports!!
One netizen quoted the tweet, saying that the former Gilas big man should be offered a coaching role in the team—to which Douthit had a simple reply:
Praying 🙏 for that day to come!!
Douthit was an integral part of the program as the naturalized reinforcement of Gilas 1.0 in the early 2010s, averaging 17.2 points, 10.9 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks in his national team career.
Currently, the 43-year-old Douthit is the head coach at the Community College of Rhode Island. But it is clear Kuya Marcus still has a soft spot for Philippine basketball—even after all these years.
Perhaps it is time to give the man a call and a spot in the Gilas coaching staff.
