Renejay “Renejay” Barcarse is out at Aurora Gaming.

The MPL Philippines Season 14 runners-up announced Wednesday, July 2, that they had officially parted ways with the veteran roamer—just a year after his much-anticipated return to pro play.

Renejay’s arrival ahead of Season 14 marked a turning point for Aurora. After sitting out Season 13 due to personal reasons, the former Blacklist International star quickly became the anchor of a Cinderella run that saw Aurora claw its way from the play-ins all the way to the grand finals.

In his first season with the team, Renejay helped orchestrate a stunning postseason campaign, taking down some of the league’s biggest names—Team Liquid PH, Blacklist International, and Falcons AP.Bren— to name a few.

RORA pushed eventual champions ONIC Philippines to a deciding seventh game in one of the most thrilling MPL PH finals in recent memory.

But the momentum didn’t carry over to the world stage.

Aurora faltered at the M6 World Championship, managing just a 1-3 record in the Swiss stage and failing to reach the knockout rounds. ONIC PH, who once again stood in their way, would go on to win the tournament.

Still, Aurora entered MPL-PH Season 15 as one of the title favorites. The team opened with a dominant 7-0 start and finished the regular season with a joint-best 12-2 record alongside Team Liquid PH.

But playoff redemption proved elusive.

Chasing their first-ever MPL PH title, Aurora suffered a narrow 3-2 loss to ONIC PH in an upper bracket semifinal rematch, then were swept 3-0 by Falcons PH in the lower bracket semifinals—falling just one win short of back-to-back finals appearances.

Through it all, Renejay remained a steady leader, defensive anchor, and in-game voice.

“You, our fans, witnessed firsthand his incredible skill and dedication,” the team said in a statement. “We extend our deepest gratitude to you for your unwavering commitment and all the memorable moments you created with Aurora. But if we ever meet on the battlefield—watch out.”

As for what comes next, Aurora closed its announcement with a tease: “P.S. Our new roamer will be announced soon.”
