UP remained as the hottest team in UAAP Season 88 after the Fighting Maroons survived a tough challenge from FEU to secure their fourth straight win.
The UP Fighting Maroons dodge a bullet in surviving the hard-charging FEU Tamaraws, 69-66, to extend their winning streak to four in UAAP Season 88 on Sunday, October 12, at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.
In a tightly-contested game where neither team led by double digits, the Fighting Maroons emerged victorious by the skin of their teeth, with the Tamaraws failing to convert a game-tying three-pointer despite multiple attempts in the final seconds.
Harold Alarcon led the Fighting Maroons to victory with 15 points, while Reylan Torres added 14.
Gani Stevens nearly posted a double-double, contributing 12 points and nine rebounds as the win pushed UP’s record to 4-2, tying them with the Ateneo Blue Eagles for third place in the standings.
On the other hand, the Tamaraws slid to 1-4 despite a strong 18-point effort from Jorick Bautista.
UP will now look to extend its win streak to five when it faces the DLSU Green Archers (2-3) in a Finals rematch on Sunday, October 19, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Meanwhile, FEU will aim to bounce back when it takes on the UST Growling Tigers (4-1).
