The Fighting Maroons Basketball School is UP's official basketball grassroots development program launched last year and was the brainchild of coach Ricky Dandan.
Coach Ricky Dandan will be immortalized in the University of the Philippines with his name now entwined with the Fighting Maroons Basketball School (FMBS).
The FMBS is State U's official basketball grassroots development program launched last year, seeking to set up a stage for boys and girls ages 6-17 to showcase and then strengthen their skills in the spirit of the UP Fight.
It was the brainchild of Dandan, who passed away late last year.
To honor his legacy, the training camp will now be known as the Ricky Dandan-Fighting Maroons Basketball School (RD-FMBS).
"Coach Ricky had a huge hand in the rise of our Men's Basketball Team, and even after pinasa namin kina coach Gold [Monteverde] ang coaching, naging malaking parte pa rin siya ng UP sports through this basketball school,” said Office of Athletics and Sports Development Director Bo Perasol.
“This is just one way for us to make sure na 'di siya makakalimutan," he added.
The rechristened RD-FMBS' first module will run from June 9 to 14, while its second module goes from June 30 to July 5.
Both will be held at the UP Community Court inside the Diliman campus.
