No one can put a great player down for too long.

Mired by a woeful 2-of-10 outing in a 66-85 loss to Ginebra almost a week ago, Alec Stockton knew he needed a bounce-back game as one of the main men for the Converge FiberXers.

Stockton did just that, dropping a 33-point performance as Converge drubbed NorthPort, 111-92, in the PBA Season 49 Philippine Cup on Friday, May 16.

“Obviously, I needed to bounce back from that game against Ginebra. I played really bad,” said the spitfire guard after the match at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.

But it’s not just about scoring for Stockton.

He wasn’t really thinking about offense when he made it a mission to help the FiberXers bounce back from a loss, staying in the hunt for a top-4 finish in the elimination round.

“For me it’s not really about the points. [I'm] just glad that my shots are going in today and getting my rhythm. Pero for us it’s just really grinding and making sure we come out with the win,” he said.

Stockon is hopeful that their connection will be just as smooth when Converge takes on the streaking NLEX Road Warriors next week.

“For sure they’re a really tough team. We wanna be able to prepare for them. Knowing they were able to beat Ginebra, they’re not a team you can take easy on,” Stockton said as the Road Warriors raced off to five consecutive wins and second place in the standings.

“We’re gonna take it another notch on our preparation so we can hopefully get another win.”
