The PVL is stepping up to support communities devastated by Typhoon Tino, as league president Ricky Palou announced that proceeds from the Candon City match weekend will be donated to affected families in Cebu.

Palou shared that he and Candon City Mayor Eric Singson agreed to channel all profits from the games at the Candon City Arena on Saturday directly to relief efforts.

The matches feature the PLDT High Speed Hitters battling the Galeries Tower Highrisers and the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles facing off against the Choco Mucho Flying Titans.

“The Mayor of Candon and I just talked about it,” Palou told reporters. “We decided to give the profits of this game to the victims of the Cebu Typhoon, Typhoon Tino. We’ll leave it up to the Mayor. He’ll be the one to send it to Cebu.”

The move comes as the nation grapples with one of the most devastating typhoons in recent years.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), Typhoon Tino has claimed 188 lives, with 139 deaths reported in Cebu alone.

More than 2.2 million individuals across eight regions have been affected, with tens of thousands displaced into evacuation centers.

Palou emphasized the importance of sports communities stepping up during national crises.

“Some of our areas, when the typhoon hits, it's difficult for a lot of the people,” he said.

“They get displaced from their homes, they get moved into shelters. So, any help that everybody can give is good for everybody. I want to help our countrymen also.”

With Typhoon Uwan also now expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility, Palou said the league is ready to continue extending assistance if needed.

“Yeah, of course. We are open to that,” he affirmed when asked about aid for possible upcoming disaster relief initiatives.

The PVL’s donation drive follows a growing wave of support from Filipino athletes and sports organizations rallying for Cebu and nearby provinces, including volleyball stars and pro teams who have been leading fundraising and relief initiatives.
