Of all the things Savi Davison has embraced during her stay in the Philippines, it’s the simplest discovery that caught her by surprise.

“I like rice more than I thought I would,” Davison said with a laugh as the PVL champion talked about her stay in the Philippines on One Sports' Starting Line-Up.

In her second year with the PLDT High Speed Hitters and in the country, the Fil-Canadian hitter has grown to love the Filipino staple. Although she jokingly admitted of trying to stay away from rice, Davison bared she eventually couldn’t resist it.

And it’s not just rice that has won her over.

“Eggs are so good. Honestly, those are the two things I could live off of,” the 26-year-old added.

Davison also shared something she didn’t expect about the Philippines: happiness isn’t just a feeling — it’s a way of life in the country.

“Everywhere you go, people are smiling and being friendly. It’s a little different from Western countries, but I love it. I think it builds community, even a sense of family, and I’m just happy to be part of it and embrace it,” she said.

Still, Davison admitted that being away from her immediate family remains the toughest part of her stay.

“I think it’s being so far from home but still feeling at home at the same time. I have so much family here [in the Philippines] and so much support. But at the same time, my mom, dad and sister—the ones closest to me—are back home,” the Fil-foreign ace noted.

She further explained: “Even if you don’t talk for years, when you’re in the same country you still feel that closeness. I know they’re in a different country and 20 hours away, and that’s the toughest part."

Just recently, Davison captured her first PVL title, leading the High Speed Hitters to glory in the On Tour edition with a game-high 23 points against the Chery Tiggo Crossovers.

The victory was more than just a championship; it was a milestone that helped the High Speed Hitters finally get over the hump after years of near-missess.

And the momentum doesn’t stop there as the High Speed Hitters are closing in to another championship appearance — this time in the Invitational Conference.

Off the court, however, Davison revealed a softer, lighter side that few see.

“I’m a really fun person. Being here has made me take things lightly and be okay with certain things. Obviously, work is work, but a lot of the time, I’m very easygoing,” she bared.
