After a close call against Akari, the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles finished the job against Capital1 in PVL on Tour action
The ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles barged into the win column in the PVL on Tour after beating the Capital1 Solar Spikers in five sets, 20-25, 26-24, 23-25, 25-18, 15-11, at the Ynares Center Montalban on Sunday.
After falling short of the victory in a reverse sweep attempt against Akari, the Thunderbelles were able to finish the comeback this time around -- fighting from one set down to twice in the match.
In set 5, Jovelyn Gonzaga showed her experience with a clutch performance, including the match-clinching point that punctuated a 5-1 run for ZUS Coffee.
But it was rookie hitter AC Miner that nabbed Player of the Game honors finishing with 18 points, built off of 13 attacks and five blocks.
Capital1 kept toe-to-toe with the Thunderbelles as they were equally desperate for their first win of the preseason as they were riding a three-game losing skid.
Late in the match, Shola Alvarez scored to tie the match, 10-all, in the deciding fifth set.
However, errors doomed the Solar Spikers as they let the match slip away against a more determined ZUS Coffee side who now improved to 1-1 in their pool.
Capital1, meanwhile, is winless at 0-4.
ZUS Coffee returns to action in Iloilo against Creamline on July 19 while Capital1 meets Akari at the FilOil EcoOil Centre on July 15.
