CANDON CITY — Mayor Eric Singson gave players more reasons to give it their all come the PBA All-Star Game.

During a press conference that officially launched the festivities here, Singson sweetened the pot, throwing P150k into the original prize money for the winner of the match.

That means the victor will get a total of P250,000, while losing team goes home with P125,000.

“Palagay ko may masususpinde sa game na ‘to,” PBA commissioner Willie Marcial said in jest, expecting a cutthroat match between Solid North and Solid South.

That said, expect a tight match between Solid North and Solid South at 7pm at the Candon City Arena on Sunday, March 8.

First time PBA All-Star Rey Nambatac said so.

“Sabi nga po ni mayor, magdadagdag po siyang cash prize, so dagdag motivation for us,” the former TNT Finals MVP said with a smile.

But he was also quick to add that whether there’s more money on the line or not, they intend to give Ilocan fans a perfomrance to remember.

“But of course pinaka main goal namin, tulad ng sabi ko kanina, na bibigay namin magandang outcome yung laban na to,” he said. “Para sa mga fans at syempre mga fans na bumota samin. Nag-effort yan na pumindot para makita favorite players nila sa All-Star.”

Like most sportswriters, Jan Ballesteros once dreamed of becoming a professional hooper. But he learned the hard way that it’s not for everyone. He continues to be involved in the sport he loves, but this time as a member of the PBA Press Corps. Aside from primarily covering the PBA, he is also assigned to cover Gilas Pilipinas.
