Converge hopes Mikey Williams’ championship pedigree will also rub off on the rest of the FiberXers in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup.
With the signing of Mikey Williams, Converge just went from merely a playoff team to a title contender.
Just ask FiberXers rising star Juan Gomez de Liaño.
“Mikey is a huge pickup for us. He brings instant offense, experience in big moments, and a level of confidence that impacts the whole group. He knows how to win,” he told One Sports on Wednesday, March. 4.
The super rookie wasn’t exactly exaggerating.
Before finding his way to the Converge camp, Williams steered TNT to two PBA titles and won the Finals MVP plum both times.
Now he is bringing that pedigree to the youthful Converge side led by JDGL, Justine Baltazar, Alec Stockton, and Justin Arana, in the hopes of turning potential into a PBA crown.
But while there’s no doubt Williams is a winner, JGDL knows his arrival doesn’t really guarantee a championship.
“But we also know it takes more than one piece to win a championship,” he said.
“It’s about everyone committing to the system and building chemistry. With that mindset, I believe he will be a major factor in our title push.”
Like most sportswriters, Jan Ballesteros once dreamed of becoming a professional hooper. But he learned the hard way that it’s not for everyone.
He continues to be involved in the sport he loves, but this time as a member of the PBA Press Corps. Aside from primarily covering the PBA, he is also assigned to cover Gilas Pilipinas.
