Scottie Thompson did not hide his despair after San Miguel showed Ginebra the door in Game 6 of the PBA Season 50 Philippine Cup semifinals Friday night, Jan. 16.

Thompson spearheaded Ginebra with 24 points, nine rebounds, three assists and a steal, as he tried to push the series to a winner-take-all Game 7.

“Siyempre, malungkot. Talo kami,” said Thompson after the Gin Kings absorbed an 88-101 defeat at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao.

But Thompson found solace in the fact that the Ginebra put up a fight anew in the face of the Beermen’s assault.

Down by as many as 49-68, the Gin Kings made things interesting with a late-game rally that got them to as close as four points, 79-83, early in the fourth period.

But San Miguel responded with an 11-0 attack to restore order and preserve its lead until the final buzzer.

“Lumaban kami nang lumaban. Every huddle namin sa team, ang sabi namin, we just have to keep fighting. Baka sa dulo, makakuha kami ng momentum,” Thompson said.

“Pero ang San Miguel, mayroon talagang sagot palagi. Tapos si Cjay (Perez), pumutok, grabe. So they deserve it.”

Cjay Perez shocked Ginebra with a record 30-point output in the first quarter behind an impeccable 12-for-12 scoring clip. He went on to finish with a career-high 41 points.

For now, Thompson will make the most of Ginebra's extended break as he intends to rest and spend some quality time with his family before the next conference.

“Medyo mahaba-haba nang kaunti. Makapagpapahinga. Family time muna,” Thompson said.
