For Chris Newsome, there’s no greater honor than representing the country in international play. After their EASL stint' the Bolts will now play in the Basketball Champions League Asia.
Meralco is bracing for a hectic schedule in the next few weeks as the Bolts are set to represent the PBA in the Basketball Champions League Asia.
As the reigning Philippine Cup champions, the Bolts were tapped to compete in the week-long meet organized by FIBA.
“We’re honored to represent the PBA. We’re just told that and we have to make adjustments,” said Meralco head coach Luigi Trillo on the upcoming international joust.
Speaking of adjustments, the PBA also tweaked its Philippine Cup schedule beginning May 11 so the Bolts could make it to the June 9-15 tournament.
However, the new schedule is so compact that Meralco will see action six times in 20 days.
“We’re just gonna have to find ways. Six games in 20 days is not that bad. At least you get your rhythm in,” said Trillo.
Despite the busy schedule, Meralco captain and GIlas Pilipinas mainstay Chris Newsome couldn’t help but feel thrilled.
“It’s exciting. Anytime you get to go out of the country, play international basketball, represent the Philippines, it’s an honor,” Newsome said.
“For us to be able to have that chance, especially to represent the PBA and the Philippines, it’s something that I would always suit up for whether that’s in a Meralco jersey or Gilas jersey.”
