The PBA will first test the waters by bringing a PBA team to Canada to play an exhibition game.
PBA game in Canada?
That’s what the PBA is mulling over after commissioner Willie Marcial’s recent trip to the country in North America.
After a business meeting with Maple Leaf Sports Entertainment (Toronto Raptors franchise owner) top honcho Julian Franklin, Marcial visited Calgary to rub elbows with the Filipino community watching the Gilas friendly against the Calgary team.
“Ang daming pinoy at masaya. Mainit ['yung] pag-tanggap nila sa atin,” Marcial was quoted in an article posted on the PBA website.
If ever, this will not be the first time the PBA will bring the Filipinos’ favorite pastime closer to the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). The league previously held games in the United Arab Emirates and in Hong Kong.
There were already talks about the possibility of doing the same in Canada.
But for now, the league is looking to bring a PBA team up north to play an exhibition game and conduct basketball clinics.
They will see where it goes from there.
“There will be clinics, and will first test the water by bringing a PBA team to play an exhibition game, then an official game," said Marcial.
