Defending champion Italy continues to have world No. 1 Poland’s number in the FIVB Men’s World Championship after pulling off a stunning semifinal sweep, 25-21, 25-22, 25-23, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Saturday night, September 27.
The Azzuri will head to their sixth Finals in the World Championship and their second-straight, keeping their back-to-back title hopes alive.
Trailing by as many as five points at 11-6 in the third set, Italy managed to storm its way back, eventually tying the game at 18-all.
With momentum on their side, the Italians pulled ahead against the Poles and later secured the huge sweep.
Yuri Romano top-scored for Italy with 15 points, while Alessandro Michieletto added 10 markers in the win.
Italy will face world No. 9 Bulgaria in the gold medal match tomorrow, September 28, still at the MOA Arena.
