Bulgaria remains perfect in the 2025 FIVB Men’s World Championship after sweeping Portugal, 25-19, 25-23, 25-13, in the Round of 16 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Monday, September 22.
The victory marks the first time that Bulgaria will be part of the Top 8 of the World Championship since 2010.
With all the momentum on their side, the Bulgarians started the third set on a 17-6 blast and never looked back.
Aleksandar Nikolov continued his scoring dominance in the tournament with 17 points built on 16 attacks and one block. His younger brother, Simeon, controlled the tempo of the game with 19 excellent sets.
Bulgaria now awaits the winner of the Round of 16 matchup between Team USA and Slovenia later at 8:00 p.m.
